We are pleased to introduce our guest for the next Medicine as a Science lecture. This week, Dr. Marco Springmann from the Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH) of the University of Oxford has accepted our invitation.
In his lecture, Dr. Springmann will focus on the problems - and possible solutions - of the western society’s dietary status quo. More specifically, the possibilities of each actor along the food chain for the transformation of our food system to a more sustainable one will be discussed.
Dr. Springmann holds an MSc in Sustainability form the University of Leeds (UK), an MS in Physics from Stony Brook University (USA), and has completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Oldenburg (Germany). He is a senior researcher in the Centre on Population Approaches for Non-Communicable Disease Prevention, at the NDPH of the University of Oxford. He is the leader of the Centre’s environmental sustainability and public health program. Dr. Springmann mainly focuses on the health, environmental, and economic dimensions of global food systems. He frequently utilizes systems models to provide quantitative estimates on food-related questions. Most recently, he was part of the EAT-Lancet Commission on Healthy Diets for Sustainable Food Systems.
